The East Beach Cafe opens its doors for the first time this week but it’s already been named by The Guardian as one of the top five beach cafes in the world and has contributed to an award for its designer from FX Magazine.
Camron has been working on this project for nearly a year now – East Beach Cafe is the brain-child of local mother and daughter team Jane Wood and Sophie Murray and has already piqued the curiosity of locals and architecture buffs with its astonishing design. Created by Heatherwick Studios the organic, undulating structure, in a specially treated ‘rusted’ steel, looks like a strange, primal object which has miraculously been washed up on England’s south coast.
The Cafe’s fame has spread wide – Vogue highlighted Littlehampton as a top destination for 2007 while Stephen Bayley praised the Cafe in the Observer as a “unique architectural adventure. International magazines are queuing up to feature it and television crews are an increasingly common sight on the usually sleepy East Beach. Even Channel 4’s Richard and Judy have requested to cover the opening of Britain’s most talked about seaside café!
