Project details

During Paris Fashion Week, Bokja, the Beirut-based furniture designers teamed up with Merci, the visionary Parisian concept store to launch their collection in continental Europe. The core of the exhibition features 16 anonymous office swivel chair designs by iconic names, such as an Eames ‘Relax’ chair or an Arne Jacobsen ‘Egg’ chair, all of which are covered in Bokja’s trademark irreverent and joyful mix of central Asia fabrics and textiles. The collaboration with Merci marked not only a happy union of aesthetic ideals, but also a meeting of similar philosophies. Bokja celebrates sustainability and history by reinventing vintage furniture and found textiles, an approach that closely echoes much of Merci’s offer, where knocked-about antiques chosen for their patina sit next to striking contemporary design. Bokja also has a moral mission, working with and empowering Lebanese women who have fallen on hard times. More than 40% of the collection was sold in the first three days of the exhibit which runs through the month of October.
