Intriging and truly special. Lucia Van der Post
Thursday saw the grand opening of Merci – the eagerly anticipated addition to the Paris retail scene. We took a group of high profile journalists over for the launch of the store which is in the heart of the fashionable Marais district, Merci is a genuinely original store with a wonderful mix of fashion, interiors, homewares and flowers. A seamless blending of old and new means that you can pick up some stunning white porcelain plates from Patricia Urquiola, a bakelite light switch from the 30s, a second hand copy of Zola’s La Terre or a vintage tea dress, all from the same store. Merci can also claim the title of best charity shop in the world; founders Marie France and Bernard Cohen have decreed that the store’s profits will go to a foundation to help underprivileged children in India and Madagascar.
