Zhang Xiaoquan Scissors

These scissors have been manufactured in Huangzhou the same way since 1663 in what is said to be the longest running factory in China. Forged from two pieces of looped steel and fastened together with a copper rivet, they can be found in almost every Chinese home. These were the pair that sparked my fascination with the evolution of scissor design and were the impetus for a collection that now spans dressmaker scissors from India to traditional German kitchen shears to a 500-yaer old pair from Japan.
