London saw two remarkable arrivals last week – one was the new iPad to the Apple store and the other was the new Louis Vuitton emporium in Bond Street. In spite of the economy, it seems that luxury and technology are flourishing. Designed by Peter Marino, the LV Maison is the last word in luxury, featuring a 10m high wall of trunks, a moving bag bar, an installation of mannequins with handbags on their heads, a libraire selling exclusive editions and artworks by major contemporary artists. The effect is stunning. Michael Landy’s Credit Card Destroying Machine looks set to be woefully underused…!
