Opening today at the Wapping Project Bankside, is a provocative solo exhibition by the renowned American documentary photographer Susan Meiselas. Susan Meiselas is a New York based Magnum Photographer best known for her work covering the political upheavals in Central America. However, the Wapping Project Bankside show is a carefully edited selection from Meiselas’ highly acclaimed series ’Pandora’s Box’. The images though undoubtedly shocking when taken in 1995, now have an almost innocent quality to them and the bright colour photography reinforces the fantasies being played out. From 28 May until 3 July.

Silver Gilt medal for Norwegian garden

The first ever Norwegian garden at Chelsea Flower Show has been awarded the prestigious Silver Gilt medal. ‘Kebony – Naturally Norway’ is the combined vision of designer Darren Saines and Norwegian wood company Kebony, in collaboration with Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Embassy. The garden has been designed to reflect the unique landscape of Norway – from flora and fauna to fjords. Now in its 87th year, The Chelsea Flower Show is the highlight of the UK horticultural calendar. The Norwegian garden has been praised in the UK press for its environmentally responsible design and unique Nordic flora.

The Craft Council‘s annual fair, Collect, is in town again. Featuring more than 300 artists represented by 36 galleries from around the world, Collect showcases the designer/makers of the contemporary craft world. It’s suitably set in the huge Saatchi Gallery and there is such a variety of craftsmanship to see. I liked the hand-woven wicker baskets, delicate silver vases as well as pieces made from crushed precious stones and striped antique porcelain. Handmade definitely rocks.

The annual Grand Designs Live exhibition has hit London so I headed down to Excel to check it out. The show provides plenty of ideas for all things house-related, under one gigantic roof, and was buzzing with interiors addicts. There’s everything you need to buy, build and furnish a house. My favourite exhibit was the Eco Modular Living House where visitors could have a nose around a surprisingly stylish environmentally friendly home. From the 1st – 9th May.
