On Saturday I paid a visit to the Barbican to see Le Corbusier ‘The Art of Architecture.’ This extraordinary exhibition is the first major survey in London of one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. Le Corbusier was also a celebrated thinker, writer and artist – a multi-faceted ‘renaissance man’ and the show not only displays his amazing architecture, but also artworks, books and furniture designs. Circling through scale models and paintings, then sifting through books and getting lost in the various films was an all-encompassing experience – a glimpse into the world of this visionary thinker.
With black lacquered walls, quirky lighting and vintage furniture, the newly opened Apartment C on Marylebone High Street is an elegant and decadent boutique which invites you into a world of imagination and indulgence. Specialising in beautiful lingerie, bold jewellery and distinctive fragrances, this concept store will delight and intrigue shoppers who chance upon this curious shop. You can sip G&Ts on a chaise-longue while perusing exclusive underwear lines and can have a bespoke fitting in a changing room next to a ‘love library’ with a flock of pigeons soaring overhead!
I discovered the Hambleton Bakery, tucked at the end of a path in a forest and it is the ultimate destination bakery in Rutland. It is the sister company to Hambleton Hall and is both a wholesale bakery and has a lovely retail outlet where you can buy homemade bread, English muffins cooked on a griddle, walnut loaves and fresh brioche. Master baker Julian Carter bakes the bread in a wood fired oven and uses traditional recipes. They also sell their own jam and fresh eggs.
