With our office just a few blocks from the heart of Chinatown, and the Chinese New Year upon us, we headed over to Roosevelt Park yesterday for the annual firecracker festival and kicked off the Year of the Dragon with a bang. Nothing like traditional dragon dance troupes to ward off evil spirits! We plan on spending the 15-day Lunar New Year celebration indulging in massive amounts of dim sum at Jing Fong.

While in Paris for Maison (and men’s fashion week) everyone was talking about Jean-Paul Goude‘s retrospective at Les Arts Décoratifs entitled “Goudemalion”. Best known for his fashion photography and celebrity portraits in the 70s, 80s and 90s, he is ’one of the greatest image makers of our generation’. His 40 year career is presented in a stunning exhibition featuring drawings, objects, music films and photography with significant displays that pay homage to his muse Grace Jones. A must see if you visit Paris before mid March.

Lisa and I went to the Gagosian Gallery in London which is currently holding a worldwide exhibition to celebrate twenty-five years of spot paintings by Damien Hirst. Over 300 paintings by Hirst will be on show at all of Gagosian Gallery’s eleven locations. There’s the first spot on board created in 1986 to the smallest spot painting. Damien Hirst’s love of colour translates beautifully in this brilliant exhibition which is a prelude to his retrospective at Tate Modern in April.

I joined the throng of VIP guests for the opening of the London Art Fair on Tuesday night in Islington. There seemed to be slightly fewer stands in the Business Centre than in previous years but there was still a wealth of interesting and varied art to be seen. I enjoyed the mix of established and up and coming artists and the amusing banter of the eager salespeople.

The free Wi-Fi and tasty menu attracts a mix of professionals, bloggers and students. The menu includes an impressive range of beers, homemade cakes and delicious coffee. They show films and cycle sport on their big projector screen and even have a bike workshop.
